Crystal City One-Stop Center
MARC helped to fund the BRAC Transition Center, which opened in November 2007 in Crystal City, Virginia. This center was specifically designed to serve high-level, BRAC-impacted, Department of Defense personnel who hold security clearances and currently work in the area. Thus far, the center has been extremely successful and exceeded 100 percent of its goals.

Ft. Monmouth One-Stop Center
MARC helped to fund the Ft. Monmouth One-Stop Center, the first out-of-state one-stop center, which opened in April 2008 in Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey. The center was established to serve BRAC-impacted families relocating from Ft. Monmouth to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. In addition to an on-base transition center, an off-base center was established at the Mid-Atlantic Credit Union in Eatontown, New Jersey. The centers’ resources include job search and training information, tools for professionals who will need to be registered or licensed to work in Maryland, and community and housing services.

Harford County Job Fair
In early October 2008, MARC sponsored the Harford County Job Fair. Some 1,500 job seekers came through the doors of the Richlin Ballroom seeking jobs with the almost 60 employers showcasing their available positions. The booths mainly featured private businesses, but also included representatives from both local and federal government.

MARC Partnership Luncheon
The MARC initiative kicked off on October 23, 2008 with the MARC Partnership Luncheon. The luncheon, sponsored by the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES), was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC. More than 100 military, education, government, and economic and talent development leaders from across the region attended the luncheon to celebrate this unique partnership opportunity and learn about the evolving programs and services that MARC intends to pursue.

DISA One-Stop Centers
MARC helped to fund three one-stop centers at the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in Arlington, Virginia, which opened in January 2009. The centers were designed to serve BRAC-impacted families who will relocate to moving to Ft. Meade, Maryland from the DISA headquarters in Arlington. The centers offer information about housing, education, transportation, reciprocal occupational licensing, and other support resources. In addition to a full-time, on-site BRAC transition coordinator, each of the three centers houses a specialized kiosk designed exclusively for the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) to provide information around the clock.

Industry Sector Focus Groups
In May 2009, MARC commissioned the District Workforce Investment Council (WIC) to conduct a series of industry sector focus groups. The information gathered in these focus groups is being used to develop MARC’s “Green Jobs, Green Economy” agenda.

Post-Secondary Study
In May 2009, MARC commissioned the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to conduct a post-secondary study that will assess Maryland’s preparedness and capacity to handle the impact of BRAC.

Regional Studies and SWOT Analyses
In May 2009, MARC commissioned Chmura Economics & Analytics to conduct regional studies, assessments, and research for asset mapping, meta-analysis, and social networking analysis.

NCIS One-Stop Center
MARC helped to fund the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) One-Stop Center, which opened at the NCIS Headquarters at the Naval District Washington’s Navy Yard in Southeast DC in June 2009. The center was specifically designed to provide services to BRAC-impacted personnel and their spouses.

Walter Reed One-Stop Center
MARC helped to fund the Walter Reed Army Medical Center One-Stop, which opened in June 2009. This full-service center was designed to support the career transition of BRAC-impacted employees and military spouses whose jobs are moving to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The menu of services offered at the center includes resume preparation; job search assistance; career counseling; employee interest, skills, and values survey; and career planning workshops and seminars. The center is fully staffed with counselors, case managers, and administrative staff and open five days a week during regular business hours.

Intelligence Industry Job Fair
In June 2009, MARC sponsored a BRAC recruitment job fair to focus on helping BRAC-impacted employees in the intelligence community find new job opportunities in the industry. The event was held at the Naval District Washington’s Navy Yard in Southeast DC. Recruiters included Northrop Grumman-Electronic Systems, Lockheed Martin Corporation, and SAIC Intelligence & Information Systems.
